Alsace is undeniably beautiful with flower bedecked medieval towns and villages set in a landscape that needs to be seen,
as mere words are insufficient.
The White stork, the emblem of Alsace, can be seen nesting on high trees and rooftops and traditionally are seen as a symbol of happiness and fidelity.
Strasbourg is renowned for its magnificent Gothic Cathedral of Notre-Dame.
As home to the European Parliament it is a prosperous, lively city, the Petite France district with it's 16th century buildings are a favourite tourist haunt.
The majority of beer drunk in France is produced in Alsace and the region is also renowned for its white wines. The wine centre is Colmar which has been described as the prettiest town in France with its cobbled ways and brightly-coloured half-timbered
houses.
Whilst Mulhouse does not share these attributes, it does command some interesting architecture and excellent
museums.
