The Saint-Louis-Arzviller Boat Lift is on the Marne-Rhine Canal in the Alsace region of France and enables the canal to cross the Vosges Mountains.
The boat lift, was built in 1969 to replace 17 locks.
This spectacular piece of engineering comprises of a 43 metre water-filled box section that moves on rails up a concrete slope, counter-balanced by two 450 tonne weights. A lift of 45
metres is achieved in just 4 minutes.
CANAL DE LA MARNE AU RHIN
