Holidays in
Burgundy

The rolling countryside of the Burgundy region is famous for it's vineyards and Burgundy wine. The equally famous Beaujolais, Chablis and Mâcon wines are also produced here. Your holiday in Burgundy can be made particularly memorable by including one of the quality wine tours starting from Dijon.

The Morvan mountain range in the west of the region caters for a large variety of outdoor activities in the Parc du Morvan , including canoeing, cycling holidays, water skiing and horse trekking. On our Burgundy holiday homes page you will find excellent accommodation to enjoy all that this beautiful region has to offer, or if you prefer, we can provide superior Burgundy hotels.

The region’s capital Dijon, famous for its mustard, is an appealing city with an historic city centre of medieval and Renaissance architecture.

Auxerre sits above the Yvonne river has a well preserved old town of narrow, winding streets and half-timbered houses and exceptional architectural heritage including its cathedral Saint-Etienne d'Auxerre.

The quaint streets of the St Vincents area of Chalon-sur-Saône are set around the cathedral. Although Chalon is Burgundy's second largest city, this is undoubtedly the liveliest, and prettiest tourist area. Many cruises and boating holidays start or end in Chalon and the waterfront provides for very pleasant strolling.

Burgundy is noted not only for its wines but also for its fine cuisine. If your ideal holiday in France includes eating well, you will be hard put to better Burgundy with their Charollais beef dishes, escargots, hams and cheeses.

Should you be in Epinal on September 9th and can get up early enough, legend has it that Napoleon's ghost strolls the wall ramparts at 05:00am.
