Limousin

Limousin is the least-populated region of France but this region is one of incredible beauty. From the slopes of the Mounts of Ambazac to the softly rolling pastoral countryside punctuated with extensive areas of chestnut, oak and pine forest where unspoiled villages nestle and blend as though untouched by the bustle of modern life.

It is also a land of pure lakes and rivers. Many of these lakes have sandy beaches and the water is safe for swimming. Vassivière and St Pardoux are the largest lakes, both with monitored swimming areas. There are some 12 lakes dedicated only to nature and fishing the best known probably being St Sulpice Lake.

The Limousin region is also home to 'Le Labyrinthe' (French) situated in Gueret and claimed to be the largest maze in the world.

If you are looking for a little occasional solitude from your holiday in France, wherever you are in the Limousin, you are never far from achieving that peaceful existence.
