The Vosges Mountains of the Lorraine region are the source of many rivers and of springs carrying salts and minerals to the regions health spas including Bains-Les-Bains ,Vittel, and Plombières.

The Vosges have extensive pine forests, lakes and valleys providing numerous holiday activities such as hiking, boating, fishing, and windsurfing.

There are also extensive waterways including the Marne-Rhine Canal and the impressive Saint-Louis-Arzviller boat lift that raises craft almost 45 metres.

Nancy is famous for its Art Nouveau buildings and its three main squares linking the old and new towns.

The regions capital city, Metz, was annexed by Germany in 1870 and not regained by France until 1918. Between 1905 and 1908, under orders from Kaiser Wilhelm II a huge railway station was built to facilitate the movement of troops and horses in event of war. A number of other imposing buildings were constructed in the intervening 48 years of German rule.

There are magnificent cathedrals at both Nancy and Metz .

Amongst these is fishing and, given the large number of fish in the lake you certainly shouldn't be disappointed with your catch. The main building was once an old manor with a tower at its centre and this is where you will find a bar, restaurant, playroom and television room.
