Holidays in the Poitou-Charentes region of France

The seaside city of La Rochelle has a well-preserved and picturesque old town and a water–front lined with restaurants and cafés.There are many kilometres of sandy beaches on the island, Île de Ré across a 2.9 km bridge. La Rochelle is also home to a large, modern aquarium.

In this region you will find the historic town of Cognac, the home of Cognac Brandy.The famous cognac houses of Hennessy and Rémy Martin provide guided tours of their cellars for a modest fee.

For a good day outing, La Palmyre Zoo at Les Mathes makes an excellent destination. This well maintained and popular zoo strives to keep their animals in as near natural conditions as possible.

Bonne Anse Plage is just 600 metres from the mouth of the Gironde estuary, within 35 acres of pine woods in the bay of Bonne Anse.

There is easy access to the beach and cycle paths which lead to the Coubre Forest and the seaside town of La Palmyre.

There are two large swimming pools, three giant water chutes, a paddling pool and mini chute for youngsters. Sports include a rock climbing wall, multi-sports court, plus bike rental, mini golf, boules, table tennis and a games room.

Facilities such as an outdoor terrace, restaurant with take-away and bar and a supermarket are also available.
