Valentré Bridge - Cahors

Valentré Bridge

Work on building the bridge began on 17 June 1308 and was completed some 70 years later. It has 6 arches, 3 towers and 2 fortified entrances.

During restoration work in 1879, a small sculpture of the devil was added near the top of one tower to further a legend that had grown up regarding slow progress on the building of the bridge that prompted the master builder to sell his soul to the devil.
